Psychotherapist

The Psychotherapist will provide mental health counseling and therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults in both school-based and office-based settings. This position is split approximately 50% school-based and 50% office-based at our Frederick, Maryland location. The Psychotherapist will counsel individuals to promote optimal mental health and help individuals address anxiety, depression, trauma, family and parenting concerns, stress management, self-esteem, behavioral concerns, and other mental and emotional health needs.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Provide complex social, therapeutic, and psychosocial intake services to children, adolescents, and adults from a person-centered, trauma-informed perspective. The caseload may include individuals experiencing mental illness, emotional disturbance, trauma, and/or behavioral concerns.
• Provide psychotherapy to individuals on caseload through individual services in both school-based and office-based settings.
• Provide face-to-face psychosocial and diagnostic assessments and crisis intervention as clinically indicated.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with schools, families, caregivers, community providers, and other support agencies.
• Develop individualized treatment plans and recommend appropriate levels of care.
• Complete detailed documentation in a timely manner for all services provided.
• Ensure services provided meet the guidelines of individual benefit plans and comply with ACC requirements, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in consultation and coordination of care with school personnel and other providers as appropriate.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with ACC policies and procedures, Maryland law, and applicable privacy regulations.

Estimated Time Allocation

• Providing psychotherapy, assessments, crisis intervention, and related therapeutic services: 60%
• Ensuring appropriate level of care and explaining service offerings: 5%
• Developing treatment plans and recommending appropriate level of care: 10%
• Completing initial screenings and determining clinical and financial eligibility: 10%
• Completing timely and accurate clinical documentation: 10%
• Ensuring compliance with benefit plans and ACC requirements: 5%

Minimum Requirements

• Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
• Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental and emotional disorders.
• Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, and multicultural factors affecting mental health.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing effective clinical and customer services.
• Ability to interrelate and work effectively with school personnel, facility staff, clients, families, caregivers, and outside support agencies.
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of client information in accordance with ACC policy and procedure, state and federal law, and school requirements.
• Knowledge of counseling techniques and processes, particularly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
• Ability to write clearly and professionally in clinical documentation and internal communication.
• Ability to think clearly and logically when responding to potentially dangerous, high-risk, or emotionally charged situations.
• Ability to respond to clients with patience, empathy, and understanding.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and computer proficient.
• Demonstrates strong multicultural competency.
• Demonstrates strong trauma-informed competency.
• Bilingual candidates preferred but not required.

Education & Licensure

• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or another behavioral/social science field from an accredited college or university.
• Coursework demonstrating knowledge of mental health counseling, group and individual psychotherapy, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders, psychological assessment, crisis intervention, and mental health consultation.
• Appropriate Maryland state credentials and licensing are required. LCPC, LCPAT, or LCSW-C are appropriate licenses for this position, based on scope of practice and assigned responsibilities.

Work Setting

This position is approximately 50% school-based and 50% office-based. Office-based services will be provided at our Frederick, Maryland location, with school-based services provided in local Frederick County school settings.

The Psychotherapist must be comfortable working independently in both settings, collaborating with school personnel and clinical staff, and adapting therapeutic interventions to meet the needs of children, adolescents, adults, and families.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working on a computer.
• Ability to work within a school environment and office-based clinical setting.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Employment Classification

This is a W2 position.

Pay: $50.00 - $80.00 per hour
