About the role

Psychotherapist – Children and Adults

21 Reflections Professional Counseling | Naperville, Illinois

Are you a warm, compassionate therapist who enjoys helping both children and adults feel understood, supported, and empowered? 21 Reflections Professional Counseling is looking for a thoughtful psychotherapist to join our growing private practice in Naperville.

At 21 Reflections, we believe therapy should be a welcoming space where clients can slow down, reflect, and better understand themselves. Our approach centers on meaningful connection, personalized support, and respect for each client’s unique experiences. We strive to create an environment where clients feel safe exploring challenges, recognizing their strengths, and making lasting changes.

We are seeking a clinician who can connect naturally with clients of different ages and backgrounds. Experience working with both children and adults is preferred, although we welcome candidates who are eager to expand their skills with either population.

Who You May Work With

Our clients may include children, adolescents, and adults seeking support with concerns such as:

  • Anxiety, worry, and stress
  • Depression and changes in mood
  • Emotional regulation
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Behavioral or school-related concerns
  • Family changes and relationship difficulties
  • Grief and loss
  • Trauma and difficult life experiences
  • Major transitions and personal growth
  • Parenting and caregiver concerns

Experience using developmentally appropriate approaches with children—such as play, creative activities, storytelling, or skills-based interventions—is especially valuable. The ideal candidate will also feel comfortable building collaborative relationships with parents and caregivers while protecting the child’s therapeutic space.

When working with adults, the therapist should be able to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment and adapt treatment to each client’s goals, personality, culture, and life circumstances.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults
  • Conduct clinical assessments and develop personalized treatment plans
  • Use evidence-informed, strengths-based, and developmentally appropriate interventions
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers when clinically appropriate
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical documentation
  • Collaborate with schools, physicians, and other providers when authorized and beneficial
  • Maintain ethical and professional standards
  • Participate in consultation, supervision, and professional development
  • Develop and maintain a consistent caseload
  • Provide in-person and/or telehealth services based on client and practice needs

What We’re Looking For

  • A master’s or doctoral degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or a related field
  • A current Illinois license or eligibility for licensure, such as LCPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist
  • Clinical experience working with children and adults is strongly preferred
  • A friendly, patient, dependable, and approachable personality
  • The ability to connect with children at their developmental level
  • Strong communication skills when working with clients, parents, and caregivers
  • A culturally responsive, inclusive, and trauma-informed approach
  • Sound clinical judgment, organization, and documentation skills
  • The ability to work independently while being part of a supportive practice community
  • A genuine commitment to helping clients recognize their strengths and create meaningful change

Private-practice experience is helpful but not required. We value clinicians who are curious, reflective, open to consultation, and committed to continued professional growth.
