Psychotherapist (LMHC or LMFT) — Contract Role | Bronx, NY
Mind Speak Inc.
About the role
The Practice
Mind Speak Inc. is a private psychotherapy practice built around a population that too often gets underserved: people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are also managing mental health conditions. Everything we do is individualized and grounded in evidence-based methods, with the goal of improving emotional well-being and day-to-day quality of life. Our caseload is growing, and we're adding a clinician who genuinely wants to specialize in this work.
The Position
You'll provide face-to-face psychotherapy to clients throughout the Bronx, which means regular travel within the borough. Your caseload will include people with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, and a range of other developmental profiles — nearly all with co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses. The work is a mix of assessment, direct clinical service, coordination with other providers, and hands-on support for families.
Core Responsibilities
- Assessment and treatment planning. Complete comprehensive clinical evaluations, identify presenting concerns, and build treatment plans that account for each person's cognitive profile and preferred communication style.
- Therapy delivery. Provide individual, couples, and family sessions, modifying your clinical approach to fit clients with IDD and co-occurring conditions.
- Care team coordination. Partner with BCBAs, OTs, SLPs, and other providers so that treatment plans function as one integrated whole rather than parallel efforts.
- Working with families and caregivers. Bring caregivers into the process through psychoeducation, practical guidance, and consistent communication.
- Outcome monitoring. Track clinical progress on an ongoing basis and adjust interventions when the data says something isn't working.
- Records and regulatory compliance. Document in our EHR, with progress notes submitted within 24 hours of the session, meeting Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial payer standards. Draft clinical letters and reports as requested.
- Advocacy. Represent client interests in the wider community and help advance inclusion and public understanding of IDD.
- Ongoing learning. Follow developments in IDD and mental health research and translate what's relevant into your clinical practice.
What We're Looking For
- Current LMHC or LMFT license, registered with NYSOP, kept active for the duration of the contract
- Background serving people with special needs and co-occurring psychiatric conditions — or a genuine interest in building that expertise
- Working knowledge of New York State statutes, regulations, and ethical standards for psychotherapy practice
- Clear, capable communication in writing and in person
- Flexibility, empathy, and clinical creativity, with a track record of forming strong therapeutic alliances
- Able to operate autonomously while contributing to a multidisciplinary team
- Awareness of relevant community resources and support systems
- Documentation of current Justice Center Incident Management and Mandated Reporter training
- Strong organizational habits and schedule flexibility
Applicants who speak a second language are especially encouraged to apply, as are those with lived experience of disability.
