Primary Therapist — Associate Level (AMFT / ASW / APCC)
Double Peak Recovery, LLC | Detox & Residential Treatment | [CITY, CA] Job Type: Full-time | Part-Time Pay: $30-$35 per hour Schedule: [Mon–Fri, 9:00a–3:00p]
Job Summary
Double Peak Recovery is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary Therapist (AMFT, ASW, or APCC) to join our clinical team in our withdrawal management (detox) and residential treatment programs. In this role you will carry a small caseload of adults receiving treatment for substance use and co-occurring disorders, guiding clients from their first days of stabilization through residential treatment and into continuing care.
You will complete biopsychosocial assessments, build individualized treatment plans, deliver individual and group therapy, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with our medical, nursing, and case management staff in a 24/7 licensed setting. This is a strong fit for an associate-level clinician who wants real depth of experience early in their career: acute clinical presentations, an interdisciplinary team, and structured supervision toward licensure.
What You'll Do
- Complete biopsychosocial assessments and ASAM-based level of care determinations for clients admitting to detox and residential treatment.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans with measurable goals, reviewed on schedule and revised as the client's needs change.
- Provide weekly individual therapy to a caseload of 4-6 clients, plus family sessions as clinically indicated.
- Facilitate process and psychoeducational groups using evidence-based modalities — CBT, DBT skills, Motivational Interviewing, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed curricula such as Seeking Safety.
- Support clients through acute withdrawal and early recovery, including crisis intervention, de-escalation, and risk assessment for suicidality, self-harm, and elopement.
- Collaborate daily with medical staff, nursing, psychiatry, techs, and case management to coordinate care and participate in treatment team meetings.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the EMR -KIPU in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, DHCS licensing standards.
- Prepare clients for step-down and discharge — continuing care plans, referrals to PHP/IOP and sober living, family education, and warm handoffs.
- Provide clinical information to support utilization review and insurance authorizations.
- Deliver culturally responsive care to clients from diverse backgrounds, including those mandated to treatment, involved in the justice system, or returning after relapse.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
- Current registration with the California BBS as an AMFT, ASW, or APCC in good standing.
- Working knowledge of substance use and co-occurring disorders, DSM-5-TR diagnosis, and the ASAM Criteria.
- Skill in individual and group facilitation, treatment planning, and clinical documentation.
- Ability to hold professional boundaries and stay steady in a fast-moving, sometimes high-acuity environment.
- Understanding of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality requirements.
- [CPR/First Aid certification, TB clearance, and background clearance prior to start.]
Preferred
- Prior experience in detox, residential, PHP, or IOP levels of care.
- Training in trauma-focused interventions (EMDR, Seeking Safety, TF-CBT) or DBT.
- Experience with Kipu or a comparable behavioral health EMR.
- Bilingual Spanish/English.
Why Double Peak
- Supervision toward licensure — [weekly individual and group supervision by a BBS-approved supervisor; hours signed off toward LMFT/LCSW/LPCC].
- Small caseloads so you can actually do the work, not just chart it.
- Real interdisciplinary training alongside medical and psychiatric providers.
- A team that treats clinical quality as the product, not an afterthought.
