Marriage and Family Therapist Intern

Join our dynamic mental health team as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, where you will gain invaluable hands-on experience in providing compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals, couples, and families. You will work closely with licensed professionals to deliver comprehensive therapeutic services across diverse populations, including children, adolescents, and adults, utilizing a variety of therapeutic modalities.

Duties

• Assist in conducting intake assessments and clinical evaluations to determine client needs and treatment planning.
• Support the delivery of individual, group, couples, and family therapy sessions using evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and behavioral therapy.
• Participate in crisis intervention and crisis management efforts to ensure client safety and stabilization.
• Collect and maintain accurate clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinical documentation standards.
• Engage in case management activities, including treatment coordination, progress tracking, and data collection for clinical research purposes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.
• Contribute to community outreach initiatives by supporting home and community care programs that promote mental health awareness and education.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques to facilitate client engagement and behavior change.
• Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
• Proficiency in crisis intervention strategies and crisis management protocols.
• Familiarity with telehealth platforms for remote counseling sessions.
• Understanding of clinical ethical guidelines, medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and medical documentation standards.
• Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations using healthcare diagnosis tools such as DSM criteria; experience with PTSD care is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction, family engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA), addiction counseling, behavior management techniques, and special education considerations is desirable.
