Build Your Career in Trauma Therapy — Not Your Own Private Practice

Compassionate Healing Psychotherapy & Consultation (CHPC) is seeking accountable, committed, team-oriented therapists who want to build a long-term clinical career within one practice.

We specialize in working with adults impacted by Complex PTSD, trauma, narcissistic and relational abuse, attachment wounds, abusive relationships, and other complex mental health concerns.

This position is intentionally designed for clinicians who want the professional benefits of private-practice-style clinical work without having to build and operate their own private practice.

We provide referrals, billing and administrative infrastructure, consultation, ongoing training, a supportive clinical team, and opportunities for advancement. You bring clinical commitment, reliability, excellent client care, and a desire to grow with the organization.

Important fit requirement: This position is not intended for clinicians who currently operate their own private practice or whose goal is to build or open an independent private practice. We are investing in clinicians who want to develop their careers, specialties, caseloads, and leadership potential within CHPC for the long term.

Who We Are

CHPC is a trauma-specialty, anti-oppressive, LGBTQ+ affirming, multicultural, and neurodiversity-affirming psychotherapy practice.

We are not a therapy mill.

Our goal is to create an environment where talented clinicians can do meaningful, sophisticated trauma work while having the structure, consultation, training, referrals, and team support needed to build a sustainable career.

We believe therapists do their best work when they have clear expectations, manageable professional demands, meaningful clinical support, opportunities to grow, and a culture that respects life-work balance.

Responsibilities

As a CHPC therapist, you will:

  • Provide high-quality individual, couples, families and group psychotherapy
  • Conduct hybrid and/or telehealth and scheduled in-person sessions
  • Complete clinical intakes and assessments
  • Develop individualized treatment plans
  • Maintain timely, accurate progress notes and clinical documentation
  • Apply trauma-informed and evidence-based interventions appropriately
  • Maintain professional and ethical boundaries
  • Build and maintain a consistent caseload
  • Communicate professionally regarding scheduling, client care, and clinical concerns
  • Participate in clinical consultation, training, and team activities
  • Collaborate with colleagues when clinically appropriate
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance, reliability, and follow-through
  • Continue developing expertise in trauma treatment and your chosen clinical niche

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health discipline

  • Strong clinical judgment and professional boundaries
  • Ability to complete DSM-5-TR-informed assessments, treatment plans, and progress documentation
  • Comfortable providing telehealth services
  • Organized, dependable, responsive, and accountable
  • Ability to work independently while remaining engaged with a clinical team
  • Commitment to ethical, culturally responsive, affirming care

Master’s- and PhD/PsyD-level therapists are encouraged to apply.

A Culture Built for Sustainable Clinical Work

Therapists cannot provide thoughtful trauma treatment when they are treated as interchangeable providers.

Our culture emphasizes:

Clinical depth. Accountability. Teamwork. Professional growth. Support. Integrity. Life-work balance.

We want clinicians to be able to ask questions, consult about difficult cases, strengthen their clinical judgment, and continue learning.

This philosophy is consistent with broader workplace mental-health guidance emphasizing supportive management, professional development, clear expectations, autonomy, manageable workloads, mentorship, and organizational cultures that support employee well-being.

This Position Is Probably NOT the Right Fit If

  • You currently operate an independent private practice you intend to continue growing
  • Your primary goal is to use this position temporarily while preparing to launch your own practice
  • You want only a small number of supplemental clients indefinitely
  • You frequently change clinical positions or practices
  • You are unable to maintain consistent availability
  • Timely documentation and administrative follow-through are difficult for you
  • You prefer to practice entirely independently without consultation or team involvement
  • You are primarily looking for the highest possible client volume rather than complex, relationship-based trauma work

There is nothing inherently wrong with independent practice. It simply does not align with the long-term employment model we are building.

This Position MAY Be the Right Fit If

You want to be able to say:

“I want one professional home where I can become an exceptional trauma therapist, build a stable caseload, be supported by a team, continue learning, and have opportunities to advance without having to build a business myself.”

If that describes what you are looking for, we would like to hear from you.

Ready to Apply?

Please submit:

  • Your current résumé/CV
  • A brief introduction explaining why trauma work is important to you
  • Your current Illinois license/credential
  • Trauma-specific training completed, particularly EMDR, Somatic Therapy, and/or IFS
  • Your current weekly availability
  • Your desired long-term professional direction
  • Three professional or clinical references
