Mental Health Therapist (Spanish/English)

Reports To: Clinical Director and Executive Director

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Employment Status: Full-Time

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director, the Therapist provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive mental health services to Spanish-speaking survivors of sexual violence and others impacted by sexual violence. Services include individual, family, and group therapy for children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, incest, stalking, street harassment, workplace sexual harassment, and other forms of sexual violence.

The Therapist is responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, coordinating care with community partners, and advocating for clients within legal, medical, educational, and social service systems. This position requires a commitment to Casa Fortaleza's mission of empowering survivors through culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
• Current New Mexico licensure as one of the following:
• LMSW or LISW
• LMHC or LPCC
• Other New Mexico behavioral health license eligible to provide psychotherapy.
• Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing both Spanish and English.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated cultural humility and ability to provide culturally responsive services.
• Thorough understanding of confidentiality, HIPAA, and ethical clinical practice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Independent clinical licensure (LISW, LPCC, or equivalent).
• Experience providing therapy to survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse.
• Experience working with children, adolescents, and families.
• Specialized training in trauma-informed care, EMDR, TF-CBT, CPT, DBT, or other evidence-based trauma treatments.
• Experience working within nonprofit or community behavioral health settings.
• Knowledge of victim advocacy systems and community resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Services

• Provide individual, family, and group therapy to survivors of sexual violence and individuals impacted by trauma.
• Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide crisis intervention and safety planning as needed.
• Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans when appropriate.
• Coordinate care with medical providers, schools, victim advocates, attorneys, law enforcement, CYFD, and other community partners.
• Make referrals to community resources and assist clients in accessing supportive services.
• Provide advocacy services related to client treatment goals.

Documentation and Compliance

• Maintain timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with Casa Fortaleza policies, licensing regulations, ethical standards, and grant requirements.
• Complete progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and other required documentation within established timelines.
• Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, state law, and agency policies.
• Participate in program evaluation and outcome reporting as required.

Professional Responsibilities

• Attend and actively participate in weekly clinical supervision, case consultation, staff meetings, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Provide professional court testimony, including fact or expert witness testimony, when required.
• Maintain all required professional licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
• Participate in required organizational trainings and certifications.
• Assist with Casa Fortaleza's 40-hour Sexual Assault Training and other educational workshops, community presentations, or outreach activities as assigned.
• Support implementation of clinical programs in accordance with organizational goals and grant requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing evaluation of treatment services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of sexual violence dynamics and their impact across the lifespan.
• Ability to work with clients experiencing complex trauma.
• Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
• Ability to manage a clinical caseload effectively.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet deadlines.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethical decision-making.
• Strong collaboration and interdisciplinary communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while providing therapy and completing documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through virtual platforms.
• Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds for training materials or office supplies.
• Ability to travel locally for meetings, trainings, court appearances, or community events when required.

Working Conditions

• Office-based clinical environment with occasional community outreach or court appearances.
• Exposure to clients experiencing trauma and crisis situations.
• Participation in evening or occasional weekend events or trainings may be required.
