About the role

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LCPC) to provide clinical oversight, supervision, and quality assurance for our Substance Use and mental health team. This position is primarily focused on supervising and supporting ADTs and counselors to ensure that services are delivered safely, ethically, consistently, and in accordance with established clinical standards.

The Clinical Supervisor will oversee the implementation of individualized treatment plans, monitor client progress, review clinical documentation, provide guidance regarding behavioral and mental health concerns, and ensure that staff are following appropriate therapeutic and behavioral interventions. The ideal candidate will be a strong clinical leader who can provide direction, identify areas requiring additional support or intervention, and promote high-quality, client-centered care.

This role is designed to provide clinical leadership and oversight rather than primarily providing direct therapy services. The Clinical Supervisor will serve as a resource to the treatment team while maintaining accountability for clinical quality, documentation, staff performance, and adherence to applicable regulations and organizational policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision, guidance, and ongoing oversight to ADTs, counselors, and other direct-care staff.
  • Monitor staff implementation of individualized treatment plans, behavioral interventions, therapeutic strategies, and client support services.
  • Review client records, progress notes, treatment documentation, assessments, and other clinical records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that counselors are appropriately implementing evidence-based and trauma-informed practices.
  • Provide staff with clinical direction when clients experience behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges.
  • Monitor client progress and determine when treatment plans, interventions, staffing approaches, or level of care may need to be adjusted.
  • Conduct regular case reviews and provide recommendations to counselors and other members of the treatment team.
  • Assist staff with crisis intervention, safety planning, behavioral concerns, and appropriate escalation of significant clinical issues.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development to counselors and ADTs to strengthen clinical and behavioral support practices.
  • Identify gaps in staff performance, documentation, treatment implementation, or client care and develop appropriate corrective or improvement strategies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with administration, counselors, ADTs, case managers, and other professionals to coordinate client care.
  • Ensure that services are provided in accordance with HIPAA, applicable state regulations, licensing requirements, ethical standards, and organizational policies.
  • Monitor compliance with treatment plans, clinical protocols, documentation requirements, and established standards of care.
  • Review and provide clinical input regarding assessments, diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and referrals as appropriate.
  • Assist with incident reviews, quality assurance activities, and development of corrective action plans when clinical or behavioral concerns arise.
  • Maintain appropriate supervisory documentation and records related to staff performance, clinical consultation, and oversight.
  • Support leadership in establishing and maintaining a culture of accountability, professionalism, safety, and high-quality client care.
  • Provide direct clinical services only when clinically necessary, as assigned, or when additional clinical intervention is required.

Clinical Oversight Expectations.

The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for supervising the work rather than routinely performing the work assigned to counselors and ADTs. The position should function as the clinical authority and resource for the team, ensuring that staff understand their responsibilities and have the appropriate guidance, training, and accountability to carry them out effectively.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the applicable state.
  • Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision, team leadership, or clinical oversight in a behavioral health or mental health setting.
  • Strong understanding of mental health treatment, substance abuse, behavioral health services, treatment planning, crisis intervention, and clinical documentation.
  • Experience supervising or working closely with counselors, behavioral health technicians, ADTs, direct-care staff, or similar mental health professionals.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, behavioral interventions, and appropriate therapeutic approaches.
  • Strong understanding of treatment planning, progress monitoring, clinical documentation, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to identify clinical risks, staff performance concerns, documentation deficiencies, and gaps in treatment implementation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and hold staff accountable while maintaining a supportive and professional environment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, applicable licensing regulations, ethical standards, and behavioral health compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and electronic clinical documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple clients, staff members, and clinical priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administration and multidisciplinary teams.
