Lead Clinical Therapist – LGPC

Overview

The Lead Clinical Therapist is responsible for providing high-quality, trauma-informed behavioral health services to clients participating in Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and outpatient levels of care. The Lead Clinical Therapist provides individual, family, and group therapy while supporting the coordination and continuity of client care. This role also serves as a clinical leader within the treatment team by facilitating PHP/IOP programming, maintaining timely clinical documentation, collaborating with medication management providers, and participating in ongoing clinical supervision and consultation.

The Lead Clinical Therapist is expected to model ethical, client-centered, and evidence-based clinical practice while supporting effective communication and collaboration among the multidisciplinary treatment team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Services

• Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy to clients across PHP, IOP, and outpatient levels of care.
• Lead and facilitate PHP and IOP therapeutic groups, including psychoeducational, process-oriented, skills-based, and therapeutic interventions.
• Complete comprehensive clinical assessments and assist in identifying clients’ treatment needs, strengths, risks, and goals.
• Develop individualized treatment plans (ITPs) based on clinical assessment, presenting concerns, client goals, and level of care.
• Review treatment plans every 30 days to assess progress, barriers, continued needs, and appropriateness of interventions.
• Update and formally revise treatment plans every 90 days, or more frequently when clinically indicated.
• Monitor client progress and modify therapeutic interventions based on clinical presentation and response to treatment.
• Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment when clinically indicated and follow organizational safety and reporting procedures.
• Coordinate transitions in care, including step-down planning, referrals, and discharge planning.

Clinical Leadership

• Serve as a clinical resource and leader for the treatment team while functioning within the scope of LGPC licensure and applicable supervision requirements.
• Support consistency and quality of clinical programming across PHP and IOP services.
• Assist with maintaining clinical standards, treatment expectations, and documentation requirements.
• Provide clinical collaboration and consultation to colleagues regarding client care, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions, as permitted within the LGPC scope of practice and supervision structure.
• Promote a collaborative, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented treatment environment.
• Assist with identifying clinical needs or barriers that may affect quality of care and communicate concerns to appropriate leadership.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

• Participate in weekly collaboration with medication management providers to review client progress, treatment response, presenting concerns, safety considerations, and coordination of care.
• Communicate clinically relevant observations and treatment updates to psychiatric/medication management providers while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Collaborate with case management, nursing, peer support, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultations as required.
• Support continuity of care between therapy, medication management, case management, and other behavioral health services.

Documentation and Compliance

• Complete all clinical documentation accurately, thoroughly, and within required organizational and regulatory timelines.
• Maintain timely documentation of individual, family, and group therapy sessions.
• Complete and maintain treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, progress notes, assessments, and discharge documentation.
• Ensure documentation reflects medical necessity, client progress, clinical interventions, and continued need for services.
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies, ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of clinical supervision and consultation.

Supervision and Professional Development

• Participate in weekly clinical supervision in accordance with LGPC licensure requirements and organizational expectations.
• Utilize supervision to strengthen clinical skills, address complex cases, evaluate treatment approaches, and ensure ethical and competent practice.
• Participate in continuing education, staff training, case consultation, and professional development activities.
• Remain current on evidence-based practices and emerging approaches relevant to the populations and levels of care served.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
• Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in good standing in the applicable state.
• Ability to practice within the scope of LGPC licensure and under required clinical supervision.
• Experience providing individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy.
• Experience or demonstrated competency in facilitating structured behavioral health groups.
• Knowledge of treatment planning, clinical documentation, and multidisciplinary care.
• Strong understanding of ethical and professional standards applicable to behavioral health practice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in PHP, IOP, residential, community mental health, or other higher levels of behavioral health care.
• Experience facilitating psychoeducational and process groups.
• Experience working with complex clinical presentations and diverse populations.
• Experience collaborating with psychiatric providers and medication management teams.
• Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, or clinical coordination experience.
• Training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-focused interventions, or other appropriate modalities.

Position Expectations

The Lead Clinical Therapist is expected to maintain a high standard of clinical care while balancing direct service delivery, treatment planning, documentation, collaboration, and professional development. The position requires consistent participation in weekly clinical supervision and weekly medication-management collaboration, timely 30-day treatment plan reviews and 90-day treatment plan updates, and active leadership of PHP/IOP group programming.

Important: Because the position is designed for an LGPC, all clinical responsibilities, leadership functions, and independent decision-making should remain consistent with the LGPC’s state-specific scope of practice and supervision requirements.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
