Come Do Healing Work With Us
Purple Couch Therapy is growing, and we are looking for a daytime clinician who wants to do more than simply provide therapy.
We are looking for therapists who are already practicing from a culturally responsive, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lens, as well as therapists who are ready to learn how to bring these frameworks more deeply and intentionally into their clinical practice.
You do not have to arrive at Purple Couch knowing everything.
You do need to arrive curious.
We want clinicians who are willing to learn, reflect, ask questions, receive feedback, examine what they were taught about mental health, and grow into a practice that considers the whole person.
That means understanding that our clients do not exist outside of their culture, race, families, communities, bodies, histories, identities, and the systems that impact their lives.
Our therapists provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy to Black, Indigenous, and other people of culture across Texas, with a particular commitment to creating sacred and affirming spaces for Black womxn.
This position is open to associate and independently licensed therapists with at least one year of clinical experiencewho want to deepen their clinical work while becoming part of a collaborative, justice-centered practice.
Clinical supervision is available for LMSWs and LMFT-Associates who meet applicable Texas supervision requirements.
This is a part-time, daytime hybrid position with both in-person work at our San Antonio office and virtual services. Clinicians are expected to maintain availability for approximately 10 to 20 client sessions per week, based on referrals, scheduling, and client need.
Who We Are
Our mission is to cultivate sacred space for Black womxn healing.
At Purple Couch Therapy, we believe wellness should be accessible, culturally rooted, liberatory, and connected to real life.
We are interested in more than helping people cope with systems that harm them.
We want our communities to heal.
Our work invites people to reconnect with themselves, their relationships, their communities, their bodies, their joy, and the things that are truly important to them.
We approach mental health through an anti-racist and anti-colonial lens. We question Western psychological frameworks that treat culture, racism, oppression, family, spirituality, community, and history as side notes rather than essential parts of the healing process.
We believe therapy can hold grief and joy. Rage and softness. Accountability and compassion. Survival and liberation.
And we believe clinicians deserve a workplace where they can continue becoming whole, too.
What We ValueSacred, Culturally Responsive Care
We center the lived experiences of Black, Indigenous, and other people of culture.
For us, culturally responsive care is not about memorizing the "right" language or becoming an expert on someone else's culture. It is a practice of curiosity, humility, self-reflection, accountability, and continued learning.
We want therapists who understand, or are ready to learn, how culture, race, identity, family, community, history, power, and systems shape the therapeutic relationship and the ways our clients experience healing.
Anti-Racism and Social Justice
We refuse silence around racism, oppression, and injustice.
You do not have to come to Purple Couch with perfect language or years of formal training in anti-oppressive practice.
You do need to be willing to engage.
We expect our clinicians to be open to examining their own identities, biases, clinical training, power, and assumptions. We want people who can stay curious when challenged and who are willing to continue developing an anti-racist and anti-oppressive clinical practice.
This work requires more than good intentions. It requires practice.
Relationship and Community
We believe relationships are medicine.
That includes relationships with our clients, with one another, and with the communities we serve.
Purple Couch is collaborative by design. We want clinicians who contribute to the collective, who are interested in learning from one another, and who understand that none of us does this work alone.
Deep Healing
We are not interested in reducing people to diagnoses, symptoms, or a list of coping skills.
Clinical skill matters deeply here. So do culture, context, history, embodiment, relationships, community, and humanity.
We want clinicians who are curious about what lives underneath the symptom and willing to expand the way they think about healing.
