Clinical Therapist

Overview

The Primary Clinical Therapist (PHP & IOP – Dual Diagnosis & Trauma-Responsive) is an on-site role based in Sandy Springs, GA. (Hours are approximately 9 to 4).

This role is responsible for providing trauma-responsive individual, group, and family therapy for clients in dual diagnosis PHP and IOP programs, integrating evidence-based interventions and recovery-oriented approaches. The therapist conducts biopsychosocial assessments, develops and updates treatment plans, maintains detailed clinical documentation, and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate care. Day-to-day responsibilities include facilitating structured therapeutic groups, supporting crisis intervention and safety planning, engaging families and support systems, and participating in case consultations and treatment reviews. The therapist also contributes to program development by offering clinical input on best practices and helping ensure services meet regulatory and ethical standards.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Counseling or Marriage & Family Therapy.

Licensure: Intention to obtain state license (or already have obtained licensure) as an LPC or LMFT. Clinical Supervision is offered on-site.

Clinical Experience: Minimum 2+ years of experience working with dual-diagnosis, substance use, and complex psychiatric disorders in an outpatient, PHP/IOP, or residential setting.

Trauma Training: Practical application or formal training in trauma-specific modalities (EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, CPT, or DBT) strongly preferred.

Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of ASAM criteria, polyvagal theory, harm-reduction models, and trauma-informed care principles.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and diagnostic evaluations utilizing ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding standards to accurately identify client needs.
• Develop personalized treatment plans aligned with clinical documentation standards, incorporating evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused therapy, and behavioral therapy.
• Deliver individual, group, and family counseling sessions utilizing modalities like psychodynamic therapy, child & youth therapy, and art or dance therapy when appropriate.
• Implement crisis intervention strategies and crisis management protocols to ensure client safety during acute episodes.
• Maintain detailed clinical documentation within electronic health records (EHR/EMR), ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinical ethical guidelines.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, medical professionals, and case managers to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
• Provide specialized support for clients with co-occurring disorders, developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or chronic pain conditions.
• Engage in ongoing research and professional development to stay current with advances in mental health counseling, ICD coding updates, and evidence-based practices.

Skills

• Extensive experience in psychotherapy techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, trauma-focused therapy, and addiction counseling.
• Proficiency in motivational interviewing and behavior management strategies to foster client engagement and positive change.
• Strong background working with children, adolescents, individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder, geriatrics, or pediatrics.
• Skilled in crisis intervention, crisis management, and trauma-informed care for diverse populations including those experiencing PTSD or grief.
• Familiarity with telehealth therapy platforms and delivering services via telehealth experience while maintaining clinical documentation standards.
• Knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems for accurate diagnosis documentation; experience with CPT coding is a plus.
• Ability to conduct mental health assessments using medical terminology; experience working within inpatient or outpatient settings is desirable.
• Demonstrated competence in case management, treatment planning, patient assessment, and clinical research methodologies.
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration; experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders or disabilities is highly valued.

Pay: $53,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
