Clinical Therapist - Victim Empowerment and Education Program VEEP at NC-YVPC

Reports to: Clinical Director or designated program leader

Location: On-site in Lumberton, North Carolina; not a remote position. Local travel and approved telehealth service delivery are required.

Classification: Full-time employee or part-time contractor, based on program need and mutual agreement

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with education, licensure, clinical experience, and employment classification

Schedule: Regular afternoon availability; some evening or weekend hours and monthly SEE-IT and Paint Party participation are required.

Position Summary

The Clinical Therapist provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive behavioral health services to children, adolescents, adults, and families affected by violence, victimization, and other adverse experiences. The therapist conducts assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, and delivers evidence-based individual, family, and group services in office, community, school, and approved telehealth settings. This position works as part of a collaborative team committed to accessible care, strong community partnerships, and meaningful outcomes for individuals and families in Robeson County and surrounding rural communities.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide individual, family, and group therapy within the clinician’s scope of practice and assigned program requirements.

• Complete clinical assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, safety planning, and other required documentation accurately and within established timelines.

• Use evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches appropriate to each client’s age, culture, strengths, needs, and lived experience.

• Maintain an assigned caseload and coordinate scheduling to support consistent engagement, continuity of care, and timely follow-up.

• Assess risk, respond to safety concerns, make mandated reports, and follow agency protocols for crisis response and clinical consultation.

• Coordinate care and referrals with caregivers, schools, Child Advocacy Centers, courts, healthcare providers, and other community partners when authorized and clinically appropriate.

• Participate in clinical supervision, case consultation, program meetings, quality-improvement activities, and required training.

• Track services and outcomes and submit accurate program, grant, time-and-activity, and productivity information by established deadlines.

• Participate in monthly SEE-IT and Paint Party activities and support other community education, outreach, and agency events related to violence prevention, victim services, and behavioral health.

• Protect client privacy and comply with HIPAA, professional ethics, mandatory-reporting requirements, payer rules, and agency policies.

• Perform other related duties that are reasonable and consistent with the purpose and clinical scope of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited program in social work or counseling.

• Current North Carolina clinical license or associate license in good standing, such as LCSW, LCSWA, LCMHC, or LCMHCA.

• Ability to practice within all applicable supervision requirements. Qualified associate-licensed candidates are encouraged to apply; clinical supervision support may be available based on role and program assignment.

• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, ethical clinical practice, treatment planning, documentation, and confidentiality requirements.

• Ability to pass required background checks and meet any grant, payer, credentialing, or program eligibility standards.

• Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally for community-based services, meetings, or events as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience serving children, adolescents, families, or survivors of violence, abuse, or other trauma.

• Training or experience in evidence-based models such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Problematic Sexual Behavior Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or comparable approaches.

• Experience providing person-to-person, telehealth, and community-based therapeutic services.

• Familiarity with rural behavioral health, multidisciplinary teams, and Medicaid or other third-party billing.

• Bilingual English and Spanish capability.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This is an on-site, non-remote position based in Lumberton, North Carolina. Services may be delivered in office, school, community, home-based, or approved telehealth settings. The role requires routine computer and telephone use, secure recordkeeping, and local travel.
