About the role
Position Summary
Irongate Behavioral Health is seeking an experienced, independently licensed Clinical Supervisor to provide clinical leadership, supervision, quality assurance, and program oversight for our Denton, Texas location.
Irongate provides integrated mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) outpatient services, including individual and group services, case management, peer support, life-skills development, recovery support, and coordination with supportive housing resources.
The Clinical Supervisor will play a key leadership role in ensuring services are clinically appropriate, properly documented, compliant with applicable Texas requirements and payer standards, and delivered according to Irongate's established treatment model.
This position is ideal for a clinician who combines strong clinical judgment with leadership, accountability, staff development, and an understanding of Medicaid-funded behavioral health services.
Preferred Licensure
Candidates should hold an active Texas license appropriate to the services and supervision being provided, such as:
- LPC – Licensed Professional Counselor
- LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- LPC-S – Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor
- LCSW-S – Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor
- LMFT / LMFT-S – Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
- LCDC – Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, when applicable to SUD services
- Other independently licensed Texas behavioral health professionals who meet applicable regulatory and payer requirements
Supervisor designation/approval is strongly preferred when the position will provide formal board-recognized supervision toward professional licensure.
Primary ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership & Oversight
- Provide clinical leadership and day-to-day oversight of behavioral health and substance use disorder programming.
- Promote an integrated treatment model addressing mental health, substance use, recovery, social functioning, and other barriers to long-term stability.
- Ensure services are individualized, person-centered, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and medically necessary.
- Assist leadership with development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of clinical programs.
- Help establish and maintain a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, professionalism, and ethical practice.
- Serve as a clinical resource for staff regarding complex cases, treatment planning, crisis situations, and continuity of care.
Clinical Supervision
- Provide individual and/or group clinical supervision to assigned clinical staff.
- Supervise therapists, counselors, interns, associates, and other clinical personnel as permitted by the supervisor's license and credentials.
- Review staff performance, clinical competency, professional boundaries, ethics, and adherence to scope of practice.
- Provide coaching, corrective guidance, and professional development to clinical team members.
- Document supervision activities as required.
- Ensure employees receive appropriate orientation and ongoing clinical training.
- Assist with competency evaluations and performance reviews.
Assessment & Treatment Planning
- Oversee the quality of behavioral health and substance use assessments.
- Review treatment recommendations and ensure appropriate level-of-care determinations.
- Ensure individualized treatment plans contain measurable goals, objectives, interventions, and identified client needs.
- Monitor treatment-plan updates and progress toward established goals.
- Ensure discharge and transition planning begins early and supports continuity of care.
- Promote coordination between mental health, SUD, case management, peer support, and community-based services.
Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Conduct routine clinical chart reviews and documentation audits.
- Ensure documentation supports the service provided and demonstrates medical necessity when required.
- Review assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, group documentation, discharge summaries, and other clinical records.
- Identify documentation deficiencies and ensure timely correction.
- Monitor timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and clinical quality of records.
- Work with administrative and billing personnel to address documentation issues that could affect claims, authorization, reimbursement, or regulatory compliance.
- Participate in internal quality-improvement and utilization-review activities.
Medicaid & Payer Compliance
- Support compliance with applicable Texas Medicaid and managed-care requirements.
- Ensure services are provided by appropriately qualified and credentialed personnel.
- Help ensure documentation supports the service, provider type, duration, frequency, and medical necessity being billed.
- Work collaboratively with billing and credentialing personnel regarding denials, documentation requests, audits, authorizations, and corrective actions.
- Assist leadership in maintaining operational readiness for payer reviews and audits.
- Immediately escalate identified compliance concerns to executive leadership.
Mental Health & Substance Use Programming
- Provide clinical oversight of outpatient mental health and SUD services within the scope of the supervisor's credentials.
- Support development and implementation of individual, group, and family services.
- Assist with development and oversight of intensive outpatient and other structured programming when applicable.
- Coordinate clinical programming with case management, peer support, life-skills, recovery-support, and community services.
- Help ensure clients are connected with appropriate psychiatric, medical, housing, employment, social-service, and recovery resources.
Crisis Management & Client Safety
- Provide clinical consultation regarding clients presenting with elevated behavioral health risks.
- Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for suicide risk, self-harm, violence risk, intoxication, withdrawal concerns, psychiatric deterioration, abuse/neglect, and other safety concerns.
- Assist staff with crisis assessment and escalation when appropriate.
- Ensure appropriate referrals are made when a client requires a higher level of care.
- Participate in review of significant incidents and development of corrective or preventative actions.
Staff Development & Training
- Participate in interviewing and selecting clinical personnel.
- Assist with onboarding and clinical orientation.
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate ongoing professional development.
- Provide training regarding documentation, ethics, boundaries, treatment planning, crisis intervention, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and other relevant topics.
- Promote collaboration between clinical, peer-support, case-management, administrative, and housing-support teams.
Compliance & Program Development
- Assist leadership in maintaining compliance with applicable federal and Texas laws, regulations, licensing requirements, contracts, and payer standards.
- Participate in development and revision of clinical policies, procedures, forms, workflows, and documentation standards.
- Assist with preparation for audits, surveys, credentialing reviews, and regulatory inspections.
- Participate in performance-improvement initiatives.
- Identify operational or clinical risks and recommend corrective action.
- Support organizational growth while maintaining clinical integrity and compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a related behavioral health field when required by the applicable professional license.
- Active and unrestricted Texas professional license appropriate to assigned duties.
