Compensation: $120,000 to $150,000 per year, based on licensure and experience

Vanguard Behavioral Health provides substance use disorder and co-occurring treatment in New Mexico. We operate Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, along with two Adult Accredited Residential Treatment Centers (AARTC) in Albuquerque. Our programs are accredited by The Joint Commission and serve adults with commercial insurance and Medicaid (Turquoise Care).

The Role

The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the quality of clinical care across all four Vanguard programs in New Mexico. You will lead the clinical team, supervise non-independently licensed clinicians and interns, oversee intake and assessment, and keep our programs in compliance with New Mexico regulations and Joint Commission standards.

This position is based on-site in Albuquerque full-time. Oversight of the Santa Fe IOP is handled through secure video supervision and periodic site visits.

What You Will Do - Clinical Supervision

• Provide individual and group clinical supervision to non-independently licensed clinicians (LMHC, LAMFT, LMSW, LSAA, and others) and graduate interns, in line with the requirements of each supervisee's licensing board
• Maintain supervision logs, experience plans, and licensure verification paperwork for supervisees
• Support Vanguard's Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD) Supervisory Certification and keep supervision documentation audit-ready
• Lead weekly case consultation and treatment team meetings at each program
• Coach staff on evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT skills, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care

Intake, Assessment, and Level of Care

• Oversee the intake and admission process for new patients across IOP and residential programs
• Review and approve biopsychosocial assessments, diagnoses, and ASAM level of care determinations
• Make or confirm placement decisions between residential (ASAM Level 3) and IOP (ASAM Level 2.1)
• Review individualized treatment plans and updates for accuracy, medical necessity, and timeliness

Compliance and Quality

• Maintain survey readiness for The Joint Commission, including tracer preparation, policy review, and corrective action plans
• Ensure clinical practice meets 8.321.2 NMAC requirements for IOP and AARTC services, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2
• Conduct regular clinical record audits and follow up with staff on documentation gaps
• Support utilization review and payer authorization by making sure documentation supports medical necessity
• Review incidents, grievances, and high-risk cases, and lead clinical response when needed
• Contribute to program outcome evaluation, including retention, discharge, and patient satisfaction data

Leadership and Operations

• Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations for clinical staff
• Manage clinician caseloads and group schedules across programs
• Coordinate care with Medical staff and outside providers
• Deliver or arrange staff training, including ASAM Criteria training for licensed practitioners in the residential programs
• Serve as the clinical point of contact for referral sources, courts, probation and parole, and community partners

Required Qualifications

• Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a related field
• Current, unrestricted New Mexico independent clinical license (LPCC, LMFT, LISW/LCSW, LADAC, or licensed psychologist)
• Current approved clinical supervisor designation from your New Mexico licensing board
• At least two years of relevant experience in an Intensive Outpatient Program
• Demonstrated expertise in both mental health and substance use disorder treatment
• Working knowledge of Joint Commission Behavioral Health Care and Human Services standards
• Working knowledge of ASAM Criteria and level of care placement
• Ability to pass a nationwide caregiver criminal history screening and required abuse registry and exclusion checks
• Ability to work on-site in Albuquerque 40 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications

• Three or more years of supervisory or clinical leadership experience in addiction treatment
• Experience with residential treatment (ASAM Level 3)
• Experience with New Mexico Medicaid (Turquoise Care) and Behavioral Health Policy and Billing Manual requirements
• Experience with the IDDT model of treatment
• Experience leading a program through a Joint Commission survey
• Experience with Kipu or a similar EHR
• Dual licensure (for example, LPCC and LADAC)
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
